Undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk recently was linked with a return to his old stomping ground division.
A former undisputed cruiserweight champion, as well, Usyk has beaten everyone he ever fought — but cruiserweight is now unlikely again he has let it be known.
Speaking to Sky Sports Usyk conceded:
“No, now I think it’s not possible because six years of work to get to my weight, and I’ve worked, worked, worked, eating, eating, eating. It would be hard to go back down. Six years to undo it, yeah, exactly. It’s hard because we’ve given, like, my blood, you know, like, tests, my condition, my coach, and my team say, ‘Hey, listen, it’s a bad idea to go back to cruiserweight because you’re not a young guy, not 24, 25 anymore.'”
He wants two more fights at heavyweight.
Interesting times ahead, one of which, the final one he wants, is to take on a UFC champion in a boxing match in.
Let us see what shall happen.
Anything is possible — particularly as the sport of boxing continues to return to mainstream popularity worldwide in both the East and West.
