Former world champions Carl Froch and Tony Bellew of the UK used to spar a lot when active as professional boxers.
It isn’t often you hear boxers talk on media about their sparring sessions, let alone directly with one another after their careers. Not Bellew and Froch though.
Speaking on his podcast directly with Bellew himself Froch said:
“Yeah, exactly. I second that, mate. You were the only sparring partner out of many sparring partners, except for the big heavyweights (I could let heavy punches go on). Some of the big heavyweight amateurs I used to spar with, you were the only sparring partner where I could really set about and like unload my shots and come for you and try to really go for it, and that’s why Rob (McCracken, Froch’s trainer) loved it, and you could cope. Like, I could put my shots together, back you up, pull it on you, and you’d be like, “There you go, son, I have one of them back,” and I’d be like, “Right, okay, get back in my box for a bit.” But that was what made the spar so good.”
Classic Froch and Bellew.
Two warriors in the boxing ring and in life too.
It will be interesting to see if an offer comes in for Froch to come back for either a fight with boxing legend Joe Calzaghe or YouTuber and promoter Jake Paul.
It looks like Froch is gearing up for something, time will tell.
