Artur Beterbiev spoke ahead of his latest fight on how the sport of boxing helped him and growing up in a tough environment.
Beterbiev from Russia fights Dmitry Bivol also from Russia in a huge rematch this Saturday, but came from humble beginnings away from the bright lights of Saturday’s title fight at 175 lbs.
Speaking ahead of his rematch with Bivol, Beterbiev told Daily Mail Sport:
“I think yes, because hard times make strong people, you know. I think so. Hard times are always good. My older brother, when he does interviews, he’d say, ‘I have a lot of energy, and I need to spend this energy somewhere else,’ you know, and he decided to bring me to the boxing gym to spend my energy there. Since that time, I’ve never fought out in the street.”
A good lesson for any young aspiring boxers or fighters, surely, the above.
Both Bivol and Beterbiev are good sportsmen.
May the best man win on Saturday night.
