This weekend Dmitry Bivol will try to right a wrong in his only loss as a professional boxer to date in a great career.
He rematches fellow countryman Artur Beterbiev for the undisputed light-heavyweight title this weekend.
Speaking to Mail Sport ahead of the Beterbiev rematch Bivol said:
“About being a perfectionist, generally, it’s good to be a perfectionist, yeah, because with boxing, what is the perfect career? It’s to be with zero losses, zero draws, and to be the undisputed champion, yeah. In heavyweight, this is perfect, yeah. And you have to, if you have this perfect goal, you will come much closer to this goal than if you have a goal like just to be champion with one belt. I’m trying to do, if I’m doing something, I’m trying to think, ‘What is the best? What is perfect?’ I want to be like this; I want to reach this perfection. But sometimes it’s not good also because, like with boxing, for example, you want to hit with the right hand or with a hook, and you could wait, wait, wait too much to not throw, to not try. Like, you need to try, try, try, and then you will reach the perfect timing, throw the perfect punch, but you need to try more. So it’s a fine balance, and this trying, it’s not perfect, you know? Yeah, you need to find a balance, and you cannot say you can be perfect in each position, of course. Sometimes it’s not helping.”
He comes across as a man who pays attention to detail, certainly, an excellent fighter.
Beterbiev wants this just as badly as he does this weekend and they know the winner on Saturday is in line for possibly a mega fight against David Benavidez or others later this year.
This is the big one on Saturday though.
