Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has let off some steam with one of his big rivals in boxing and his former promotional company.
Shakur Stevenson returns this weekend and now boxes for Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom.
Talking with the Mr. Jay Hill network ‘Tank’ noted on Stevenson:
“Shakur definitely talks big, but he’s only fought a couple of people on his record who he did well against, and that’s not much. It’s all about how you perform. Everyone’s chasing undisputed status, but in the last year or two, several people have held that title. It might be overrated now. You just need to be guided the right way, like Top Rank does. They know how to position fighters in front of people. A guy might be 30-0 on paper, but who has he fought? You have to dig deeper.”
Top Rank being Stevenson’s former promoter.
Interesting on the undisputed status remarks from Tank above, surely it is still a big deal to be undisputed champion.
Certainly Artur Beterbiev at light-heavyweight will be looking to retain that this weekend in his big rematch with Dmitry Bivol.
As for Davis, he’s back on March 1st live on Amazon Prime against Lamont Peterson.
Roll on a big couple of weeks ahead for boxing this week and next.
