Former world middleweight champion Andy Lee now trains Joseph Parker and what a team they are proving to be.
Former WBO heavyweight champion Parker of New Zealand might be one of the greatest ever stories from New Zealand since rugby player Jonah Lomu, in that, Parker is on a wildly out of nowhere legendary comeback that has seen him beat China’s best in Zhang in 2024, beating all-time boxing’s biggest hitter from America Deontay Wilder in 2023 before that — and now battering Bakole in 2025.
Speaking to Ring Magazine after his fighter Parker got the win Andy Lee reacted:
“I’m relieved. I’m relieved. It’s been a crazy 48 hours. We found out Dubois was sick, and we had to completely change our mindset. It could have easily upset Joseph, but he stayed focused. He said, ‘Give me Bakole,’ and, listen, respect and fair play to the man. He travelled a long way to come give us a fight. It wasn’t a good reflection of Martin, and I don’t believe that’s his true ability. I think he’s a lot better than that, but that was a great shot. That shot could probably knock out anybody.”
Always a class act Lee.
As is Parker.
Parker really did the talking with his fists this weekend and trained appropriately for the contest.
Even with the last minute change — he was ready.
