What a whirlwind of a week for Joseph Parker and indeed Martin Bakole and the heavyweight division too.
At the last minute IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois had to pull out this week due to illness leaving opponent Parker to fight and beat Martin Bakole inside two rounds instead tonight.
Speaking to Stomping Ground on the knockout Joshua said:
Credit to Martin Bakole, coming in from the Congo. Bakole believes in himself, but that’s the heavyweight division. At the end of the day, there’s an element of skill, but what makes the heavyweight division so interesting is that it takes one punch to change the course of a fight. What I’m trying to say is, regardless of whether Bakole had five days or five weeks, that punch from a heavyweight knocks down or knocks out anyone. We’re just too powerful. If it connects right, it doesn’t matter if you had five months in training camp—a shot that lands like that knocks out anyone.“
Maybe no one can put it better than that.
That’s heavyweight boxing at the end of the day.
One punch can change it all.
Interesting to see who Joshua fights also next coming back from the knockout loss to Dubois last year.
