Bivol was quick to give respect to his promoter Eddie Hearn after beating Beterbiev in the rematch.
Speaking after the win tonight Hearn said to Ring podcast:
“Unbelievable. To be honest with you, I can’t believe Dmitry Bivol won that fight after what I saw through five rounds. I thought he won the first two rounds, and then we knew Beterbiev could start fast. He came out like an absolute train, and it looked like nothing was going to stop him or reduce the pressure. What we saw from there was probably the best boxing performance I’ve ever seen live—it was unbelievable. Young fighters should look at the way he stabbed the body, landed shots on the body, made Beterbiev follow him around, worked the angles—it was just the purest performance I’ve ever seen. Dmitry Bivol is such a nice guy, honestly. All he ever wanted and dreamed about was becoming an undisputed champion, and to see him achieve that—it’s actually our first male undisputed champion too. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. There was a lot of tension from the first fight—I feel like he deserved it the first time around. No arguments this time, even though someone tried to rob us with a draw. It was a clear win, and I’m so happy for him.”
Kudos to Bivol and his team and hard luck to Beterbiev and his team.
Surely a trilogy is in the making.
