The Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach fight tonight delivered in New York for fight fans as a card.
A solid card with solid action across many fights.
A sell out and packed house saw a good fight and at times, a good boxing match in the main event.
The bout started off cagey with the early rounds seeing both boxers look to find their range and ‘Tank’ Davis sticking and moving on the back foot with Roach more on the front foot.
The third round some more front foot work from Davis and both men scrapping on the inside a little more, exchanging some trash talk towards the end of the round and at the bell.
Davis landed a couple of solid left hands in the round, more range finders though.
The mid rounds saw Davis continue to control the action with his boxing mostly, something that proved a constant theme in the fight.
It looked like Davis took a knee in round 9 in a controversial moment that was not scored a knockdown.
Davis landed some good shots on Roach after this however.
The fight then went to the scorecards which read as a majority draw.
Credit to Roach who moved weight for tonight and showed himself as a top operator.
Shakur Stevenson will now surely want the fight with ‘Tank’ even more and will give himself a good chance of winning in a fight fans would like to see in boxing.
That said, maybe a rematch between Tank and Roach is needed now next up after tonight’s majority draw — the crowd booed the decision.
