Some different pieces of information are in the boxing news today related to last weekend’s big fight between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach.
The contest ended in a majority draw. A rematch is expected soon.
However debate continues about round nine where the boxer, and pound for pound star, Davis took a knee.
Some complained that it should have been ruled a knockdown but many including Turki Alalshkih, Davis himself and now today the WBA (World Boxing Association) believe not ruling it as a knockdown was correct, as no knockdown.
However, the WBA themselves have clarified an article on their site reported by Ring Magazine and others such as Boxing Kingdom on X, who both claimed the WBA supported the ref’s decision not to score the taking of a knee as a knockdown — the WBA saying on X that this was not necessarily the case however:
“We would like to clarify that the opinions and comments expressed in this article are the sole responsibility of the author and do not represent the views of WBA.”
Ultimately the referee made a call in live time during a professional fight at the highest level of the entire sport.
The logical next step is to simply confirm an immediate rematch for as soon as possible – May would be good.
