The sport of boxing at the highest level when professional boxing world champions fight the best is unlike any other.
It transcends all of sport in some heavyweight title fights and big fights, it simply has a way of doing it and creating stars out of nowhere, as a sport, it has everything.
This week Saudi Arabia’s Turki Alalshikh and the UFC’s Dana White launched an unprecedented partnership in their new promotion and league, with full details available in the months ahead.
The sport of mixed martial arts’ leading broadcaster and pundit, Ariel Helwani, believes boxing has changed forever in terms of it soon to be going to new levels of high flying never before seen for the sport.
It is also apparent that boxers with the promotion will be able to make use of the world renowned UFC Performance Institute — a cutting edge facility that has helped many UFC fighters over the years.
This will be big for boxing in Las Vegas and America too as that is where the facility is based.
More than anything, the sheer size of this news is maybe too early to say just yet how big it is going to be.
It almost looks like a coming together of the East and the West in the sport in many ways — taking things to a new level.
Surely they will look to work with other promoters and other networks to make big fights as well at different points.
It will be very interesting and to underestimate White or Turki Alalshikh given both of their track records in UFC and boxing respectively, the latter in a very quick time frame, would be unwise to do so in terms of underestimating what boxing has here.
If it can fix some problems in boxing too at the same time — even better.
