With today being international women’s day it is only right to mention the many great women of professional boxing.
Obviously boxers like Claressa Shields, Amanda Serrano, Katie Taylor come to mind as active boxers.
Shields leading the way as the greatest female boxer that ever lived with all her accomplishments.
Ebanie Bridges of Australia recently had a baby — congrats to her and family on the new born.
Bridges helped popularize women’s boxing on social media years before what has seen women’s boxing grow quite a bit.
Only last night Lauren Price of Wales became unified world champion by defeating Natasha Jonas.
Moreover, recently Amanda Serrano (who faces Katie Taylor in a third fight soon on the biggest streaming company in the world Netflix) surpassed Ronda Rousey as the biggest earning women’s boxer of all time.
There are also a number of hard working women behind the scenes in boxing working for some of the promotional companies and management companies in the sport too, as well as in some of the gyms producing champions.
Respectfully, while it will grow quite a bit, as well, obviously women’s boxing will never be on the same level as men’s boxing in terms of pay — that is simple supply and demand economics, there is not as much demand, obviously.
Happy international women’s day.
