A very heavy ban in professional boxing has been dished out today for two years no less.
One year bans are the typical ban, two years more atypical but some have been calling for stricter penalties for a while now, depending on the case, some also have called for life time bans for some time now.
Per Ring Magazine a short time ago this was dished out:
“Mauricio Lara tested positive for betamethasone in a UKAD test following his rematch defeat to Leigh Wood in May 2023 and so has now been banned from boxing for two years. His ban is backdated to the start date of his provisional suspension and so will expire on March 6th, 2026.”
No messing around there.
That’s him out of action for the foreseeable future.
Maybe he will appeal though.
Doping has been somewhat of an issue in the sport (as in all sport) for a while but efforts continually are made to eradicate it.
