Edgar Berlanga came in for some criticism at the weekend following an opponent that not many heard of.
He won by brutal first round knockout against, as well, an opponent who was not in great shape.
Speaking on Caleb Plant’s criticism of the opponent, as well as possible fight with him, Berlanga said to IFL TV that not many picked up on:
“First off, he’s (Plant) fought guys like that himself, you know? But it’s just people expecting me to be fighting for a world title right now—like against Scull or something—or fighting them. But that wasn’t the opportunity we got. I’m a free agent now, so I can go off and do whatever I want, do the things we like to do.”
Ultimately Edgar Berlanga done nothing wrong with taking the fight or in the fight.
He did his job and took his opponent out inside the first round.
It was also a comeback fight from only the first loss of his entire professional career, last year to Canelo Alvarez — one of the best fighters in the entire sport no less.
