George Kambosos Jr. returns this weekend on a huge card in Australia with boxing buzzing in the country.
And on the entire continent no less. Kambosos has had to deal with a late pull out and replacement opponent, however.
Speaking ahead of the fight this weekend Kambosos said:
“We had a certain opponent, but that’s boxing—you’ve got to be ready for the unexpected. We adapt. We’ve been through so many scenarios and experiences at the championship level—the biggest stage in the game. One guy’s out? Okay, who’s next? Respect to Jake for jumping in. His style suited us, so we said, “Give him the shot—young, respectful, humble kid. Let him have his Rocky story.” But don’t get it twisted—this isn’t a happy ending. There’s a difference between fighting at the domestic level, holding the Australian title, and fighting at the level I’ve been at.”
24-year-old Jake Wyllie from Australia is who is in front of Kambosos now and is who he will face next up.
He can only climb the hill in front of him — but as he mentions — he won’t want to give a happy ending to the Rocky story from Wyllie — far from it.
