It was a big weekend of boxing down under again as George Kambosos became the latest big winner for the continent.
People forget Australia is not just a huge country, it’s an entire continent on Earth no less — so huge for boxing this weekend as a sport.
Speaking after his points win over Jake Wyllie this weekend Kambosos said:
“We’ve seen Hitchens with Lomachenko—same kind of style, tough and strong—but you saw the first four or five rounds. I was dynamic. I felt great, jumping around, coming back to the corner. Kambosos was back. Then a nice clash—I went a little off the game plan and had to fight back. Credit to the young kid. I’m happy for him, proud of him. Building Australian boxing—I’m so happy Eddie’s (Hearn) here now. Ferocious Promotions, my father, we’ve got a lot of good young kids.”
On a sad weekend for the sport with the loss of George Foreman — another George cheered up fight fans in Australia with a great fight and win.
Credit to Wyllie who stepped in on short notice as well — he gave Kambosos absolute hell at times.
