Former world champion has revealed a few things to Terence Crawford ahead of his likely fight against his old friend Canelo Alvarez.
The two are now enemies. Alvarez and De La Hoya.
Speaking to Fight Hype De La Hoya said:
“A good little man which would be Crawford has never beaten a good big man, which would be Canelo, in the history of the sport. Now if Crawford can do it Jesus Lord give this man the title of being the greatest ever. That’s probably the motivation for Crawford. For his camp, his corner, his trainer. They’re thinking ‘Look if you beat Canelo you can go down as one of the historical best fighters ever on the planet.’”
He added:
“That’s enough motivation for any fighter. But as a fighter, I just don’t see it. Canelo’s a big puncher. Yeah, he walks on quicksand, and that’s one thing Crawford could use against him, but the pressure of the heavier guy—Canelo will be 200 pounds in that ring. It’s a tough fight.”
It is such a huge ask and Crawford didn’t look impressive when he stepped up in weight previously.
Crawford will need to be twice as sharp as the best he has ever been and he knows it.
What an occasion for the sport of boxing — remember though — Canelo must beat William Scull in May first for this to happen.
That is not easy for Alvarez either and he knows it too.
