Joseph Parker instead knocked out Martin Bakole recently but had been due to fight Dubois.
And challenge for his IBF heavyweight title belt until Dubois had to pull out due to illness on fight week.
Speaking to BoxNation Dubois said:
“Probably on Thursday or Friday just a couple of days before the fight. My glands swelled up. I had a fever and I felt completely drained and dizzy. But I still wanted to fight. My team brought in the British Boxing Board of Control doctor and after assessing me he advised against it.”
Adding:
“My team, my dad, and everyone involved agreed to pull me out of the fight based on his recommendation. I wanted to fight, though, so it left a bitter taste in my mouth. Hopefully, they can reschedule the Parker fight so I can finish what I started.”
Fast forward and now Parker is in the frame for big fights not just against Dubois — next up.
The heavyweight division is on fire this year and so much can happen.
Roll on Dubois’ comeback from illness very soon.
