Mexican boxing legend Julio César Chávez was at the UFC this weekend and got a huge reception.
And rightly so.
Boxing and MMA (mixed martial arts) have never been so close now as sports — with all the fighters from either sport competing in one another’s sport and so on — particularly lately.
As well as UFC boss Dana White getting into boxing this year properly with TKO Boxing with Nick Khan and Turki Alalshikh and others.
Per the above image from Chavez’ Instagram, he ran into former light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira.
Something which has gotten a big reaction online from MMA and boxing fans.
Alas, it was a big weekend for Chavez after he met the Mexican President too at a ceremony.
These type of appearances by boxing legends with different sports and heads of official governments are great things for boxing.
Things that continue to secure both boxing’s commercial and government State votes of confidence in the sport in different countries and places around the world.
Boxing is clearly a sport on the rise and standing up again in all aspects with the attention the sport and its big names are getting outside of boxing.
Many consider Chavez as still the greatest Mexican boxer that ever lived.
Let’s see though how one Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez can compete with that when his career is finished.
