Due to the way the pay per view business works the Dmitry Bivol vs Beterbiev 2 PPV buys have only now been tallied, collated and revealed here.
Pay per view in America has to be a huge fight to capture the public’s attention these days with established stars in America.
Ring Magazine on X reports a short time ago that:
“The Last Crescendo, headlined by Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol II on February 22nd, generated 340,000 pay-per-view buys worldwide, sources have informed The Ring.”
That is not too bad as there would have been many other income and revenue streams for that event. In what was a great fight and event.
All professional sports at the moment, football, boxing, UFC, baseball, whatever, are not doing as many pay per views as before due to streaming and subscription services — ESPN will even tell you that.
That is a complex question though, as to why.
It is not just the above or piracy either, tech and governments are still shutting down piracy in places and the price point in boxing is being improved on, for one thing.
Basically, if the fight is good enough and the boxers are well known enough, people will pay.
Pay per view is far from dead and big stars like Gervonta Davis, Canelo Alvarez, Fury, Joshua and others still do big numbers.
Stars of the future are being built as we speak too worldwide.
Even though Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder should have happened years ago for instance — it would still do big numbers on pay per view purely because of their name, heavyweight boxing’s intrigue.
And their big hitting styles.
Same with Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua — still a big pay per view.
If the fight and price is right PPVs will always work.
Boxing can’t do too many pay per views per year though to oversaturate the market with pay per views.
The customer will only part with cash on PPV if a big fight.
There is lots of sports as well.
Boxing is growing all the time in this regard and returning to the pantheon of near the top of all sport all the time.
Netflix, DAZN, Fox, ESPN, Sky Sports and many big companies all in boxing in countries around the world commercial proof of that.
