Heavyweight Jarrell Big Baby Miller did something that fellow American professional boxers have done before today.
In different ways though.
Floyd Mayweather famously wore a Manchester United soccer jersey in the UK before the Ricky Hatton fight. Hatton being a big fan of United rivals Manchester City.
Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson once trolled a Brazilian judge after he beat the living p*** out of someone in Brazil in self defence only.
Then actually decided to go back there briefly to court (which he was cleared of) wearing an Argentina jersey to the Brazilian judge — who still dismissed his case — which was the right answer.
Alas, it is not the first time nor will it be the last that professional fighters use soccer jerseys to wind up and antagonising opponents or others.
A short time ago in the UK’s Miller wore the Norwich city soccer jersey with his upcoming opponent Fabio Wardley wearing their rival’s Ipswich’s jersey.
Miller is partial to controversy and welcomes it — as well as welcomes conflict.
That’s boxing for you and the fight business.
Miller knows how to sell tickets but Wardley will be looking to knock him out cold when it counts — in the boxing ring on June 7th.
