Just like that David ‘The Monster’ Benavidez is now the WBC light-heavyweight champion of the world. Here’s what he said and how it happened below.
Big news in boxing this week already with former WBC champion from Russia Dmitry Bivol vacating his title.
Here’s what happened according to the WBC boss that Benavidez shared on Instagram stories:

So now David Benavidez has the WBC title.
Here’s what Benavidez said of the news on Instagram a short time ago:
“Just got the news that Bivol decided to vacate his title, instead of fighting me. Now that makes me the WBC world champion at light heavyweight. This is not the ideal way for me to become world champion but nevertheless I am now the WBC light heavyweight champion of the world, and I intend on putting the best fights.”
Basically, as well, Canelo Alvarez cannot say Benavidez is not a world champion anymore.
He now is. He holds one of the most prestigious world titles in all of boxing now as well.
What this news also shows is a continued flaw in some of the mandatory systems in some of the other belts.
In that, this might bring Bivol soon into some stuff with the IBF as he apparently may have to face an IBF challenger soon.
Next up though likely it will be Bivol vs Beterbiev 3.
Surely Benavidez as a champion now too will land a big fight next up.
