David Benavidez recently got made WBC light-heavyweight champion after Bivol vacated the belt. Bivol’s team give their side below.
Dmitry Bivol the undisputed light-heavyweight champion’s promoter is Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn.
Speaking to Marcos Villegas of Fight Hub — Bivol’s promoter Eddie Hearn said:
“We’re under contract to fight Beterbiev. There’s nothing we can do about it. We signed a contract and by the way that’s fair. We lost to Beterbiev in the first fight, and His Excellency got us the rematch. In doing so we had to confirm we’d do the third fight.”
He added:
“Which is more than fair. It’s the greatest fight in the division. Why wouldn’t you? Even if we hadn’t signed a contract but just told His Excellency we’d do it. We’d still be vacating the WBC title. We don’t go back on our word, and we certainly don’t go back on a contract.”
Makes sense.
Basically the Beterbiev tribology is the reason.
It looks like Benavidez will fight Callum Smith next up which is a good fight anyway.
