William Scull is no mug, he’s a world champion from Cuba which not many Cubans ever go onto do in professional boxing.
Think about that first off, how rare a club he’s in of apex champions, sure, Cubans do great in the amateurs but many stumble in the pros bar a few who make it to world champion — he’s one of them.
He takes on boxing star Canelo Alvarez on May 3rd in what promises to be the best Cinco De Mayo weekend ever for boxing.
Speaking to Ring Magazine William Scull said:
“Honestly, today we’re making history because we’re about to face off on May 3rd. Truthfully, it was astonishing. My sister called me at 3 or 4 in the morning, so happy, and I was thrilled too—I couldn’t sleep anymore. But honestly, it was something I’d been expecting too. We were confident that this moment would come eventually. A lot of time has passed, you know. I can’t dwell on the fight from 13 years ago with Lara, but first and foremost, we’re physically well-prepared, which is one of the fundamental factors for this fight—physical conditioning. Everyone knows the Cuban style is beautiful with the footwork. Honestly, it’s not bad—it doesn’t scare me—when you’ve managed to become a world champion, which is what I am today, by winning every fight put in front of me. I’ve always come out on top despite the difficulties and the people who underestimate me.”
He comes across as very well spoken and a very hard working athlete, not to be messed with.
He gives the impression that he is being underestimated but he won’t be by Canelo.
Canelo knows there is no Terence Crawford fight unless he gets rid of Scull.
