It is not everyday two boxing legends from across the pond meet in a boxing club to chop it up on the sweet science.
For anyone who knows boxing they will tell you that Wales’ Joe Calzaghe is maybe one of the greatest fighters of his time and one of the great all-time boxers.
He didn’t get the credit until only later in his career and you could say that he and former super-middleweight and light-heavyweight King pin Andre Ward was the same in some regards in America.
Ward is in Wales at the moment and visited Calzaghe in the gym per his Instagram stories on Instagram.
Two pound for pound legends of the sport who both retired on top and undefeated and stayed retired, didn’t get tempted back for another prize to fight for.
Two smart operators in the ring but who could both go to the trenches if needed — boxers and fighters who can both box and fight mid fight and adjust during a fight are rare — but to see two of them as retired undefeated at the pinnacle of the sport is even rarer.
Alas, Ward and Calzaghe always found a way to win in a similar vein to how Floyd Mayweather did.
Ward also has a very successful podcast called ‘All The Smoke’ podcast these days where he regularly chops it up with current monster fighters such as David Benavidez.
