Dana White’s first real professional boxer he’s promoted and promoting won in impressive fashion tonight.
As Ireland’s Callum Walsh went 13-0-11 KO with a vicious knockout of Dean Sutherland in the very first round.
After the fight White told reporters of the knockout tonight:
“That was a good one (laughs).”
Speaking briefly on his new TKO Boxing with Turki Alalshikh, White remained coy for now while also being pragmatic:
“Well, listen, my model is way different. Turki has things he’s obligated to over the next 18 months. I want to break the sport down and build it from the ground up, like we did with the UFC. So, I’m on a different path.”
Later mentioning on his willingness to work with other boxing promoters in the future:
“I don’t know. I don’t know how that’s all going to play out. We’ll see. I don’t know.”
Not many picked up on this tonight as there were not a whole lot of big reporters at the Walsh fight, although the crowd was packed and the atmosphere was great.
Walsh is surely White’s introduction to promoting professional boxing and heck of a one at that.
Likely a world champion in the making based on what we saw tonight.
It is clear that TKO Boxing, what some think maybe like a UFC of boxing in the future, is still being formed at the moment and is subject to change.
Based on official information from Turki Alalshikh or TKO Boxing as the best point of reference for updates.
Who knows, maybe TKO Boxing is only the first name it starts out with, good name though.
