Gal Yafai purse bids have been ordered for his next potential fight in 2025 which may effect the division a lot in different ways.
The smaller weight classes are buzzing at the moment not least from the great work in Japan showcasing so many world title fights in smaller weight classes but elsewhere too.
Dan Rafael on X reports the following:
“News: WBC scheduled a purse bid for interim flyweight titlist Galal Yafai vs. No. 1 & former unified 105 titlist Francisco Rodriguez for March 25. With Kenshiro Teraji having unified last week & planning to move up, the Yafai-Rodriguez winner is poised to become the full titlist.”
There’s a lot of activity going on, that’s for sure, in the smaller weight classes.
Again, as long as the champions are put in genuinely challenging and compelling fights for fans, with the best fighting the best, the smaller weight classes will grow in terms of interest in all countries.
The model in place works and needs to be put together more consistently and improved upon like anything else.
