Gennady Golovkin’s former trainer the respected Abel Sanchez has raised some eyebrows with this.
David Benavidez while not as big a star or pay per view attraction as Canelo Alvarez, has absolutely battered his way through boxing and gone undefeated for years.
Building a huge fan base across the US and Latin America, recently beating the highly dangerous previously unbeaten Cuban David Morrell.
Sanchez however told Fight Hub he doesn’t think he deserves the Canelo fight:
“No I don’t think Benavidez has earned it. He and his father. My friends need to understand that the one driving the car calls the shots. Right now Canelo is the one driving boxing in that division. You have to earn the right to fight him.”
Surely many will respectfully disagree with that.
The reality is both Alvarez and Benavidez are both going from strength to strength at the moment.
