De La Hoya Calls Bull**** On Mayweather Promise Before McGregor Fight

Oscar De La Hoya calls porkies on Mayweather’s words leading up to his fight with Conor McGregor and what the fans didn’t know.

Oscar De La Hoya is on the promotional drum-banging at the moment ahead of his fight next week that his promotional company are staging between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas.

A fight on September 16th that signifies everything that is good about boxing.

But De La Hoya still can’t quite shrug off the recent Mayweather vs McGregor event in Vegas that took place a couple of weeks ago.

Speaking on Hot 97 radio ahead of ‘GGG’ vs Canelo, De La Hoya said:

“When I saw an interview with my boy from ESPN Stephen A. (Smith) and they’re sitting side by side and Mayweather is looking at Stephen A. and he’s telling him ‘Well you know I’m 40 years old and I don’t think I can go the distance anymore and I’m feeling tired’. And I said to myself, oh here we go. Here we go. Then he doesn’t throw a punch for 4 rounds. When do you see Mayweather not throw a punch for 4 rounds?”

He added:

“I’ve got a better one. So then he goes and bets on himself in the 10th round. They (the fans) didn’t know that. I think the bookies didn’t let him because you can’t bet with yourself. He picked the 10th round. And so, I mean, the writing was on the wall. That’s why I said it was a farce.”

Traditionally Mayweather and De La Hoya have never got on – dating back to well over a decade ago when Mayweather won a split decision at the MGM Grand over De La Hoya.

The dislike is thought to still exist between the two to this day.
